His Holiness XIV. Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso is a Tibetan spiritual and religious leader living in exile before the Chinese government for the last 40 years. His life and work are hallmarked with compassion for the problems humanity and world entail. By setting a good example, His Holiness encourages people to peaceful and wise problem-solving. He also inspires people to the universal responsibility, wishing that humanity evolves into adherence to the suffering of others in order to contribute to their well being.

Two years ago in April 2010 Dalai Lama was invited to Maribor by the Municipality of Maribor, its Mayor Franc Kangler, and University of Maribor. His message was heard by a vast circle of people on two different lectures that were intended to spread the idea of respect towards different ethnic principles and values, which within their own universality exceed religious, national, and racial frameworks. His Holiness received a Nobel Prize for Peace in 1989.

On the 16 May 2012 at 1.30 pm His Holiness will have a lecture in the auspices of the project Maribor for Peace - Convention of Nobel Prize Holders and Coexistance Between the Nations held in Tabor Hall in Maribor entitled Cultivating Peace of Mind. His Holiness stated: »When the sun shines, it shines on everyone and it makes no distinctions. It shines on every inch of every land and even the most secluded corners of the world. We should follow its example.«

Thursday 17 May 2012 a panel discussion will be held in the Grand Hall of the Slovene National Theatre between His Holiness and Rigoberta Menchú Tum, prof. Muhammad Yunus, and Lučka Kajfež Bogataj, PhD, lead by Rudi Rozman, sociologist and political scientist. They will discuss the topic of Why do we need Dialogue and Solidarity in the global Crisis? The meaning of the dialogue and solidarity have proven to be essential elements on all level of existence. In facing with the global crisis, which is reflected in the global and domestic economy, politics, and relations between people, dialogue in widest sense possible is the only viable option for a long-lasting positive answers and solutions. Dialogue that derives from the aim of the common cause and for the benefit of everyone is a foundation for a constructive society. Solidarity is emphasised - values that can enable people to evolve into more compassionate beings with intolerance for the suffering of the underprivileged. Only in the environment, where no one is exposed or alienated can we successfully build a society based on stable economy, politics, and relations between people.
