April in Italian colours

29 Mar 2012 to 30 Apr 2012

Month of April of the European Capital of Culture is going to have a Mediterranean flair and the cultural richness and diversity of the neighbouring country - Italy. Programme includes fine arts, exhibitions, and many assorted music.

The month of Italian culture will be opened on April 4, 2012, with an exhibition of Ottavio Missoni - the master of colours, organised by Italian union. Three-part exhibition will reflect the author's life story by revealing an athlete, artist, and businessman. Another exhibitionwill begin the next day, April 5, in the Gallery of Vetrinj Mansion, named Imago Trieste - a homage to this ancient Italian town and its restless trading, geo-strategic, political, and otherwise crucially important role in the Adriatic sea. A visual art exhibition Fabia Fonde: DigiArtStudio 2007−2012 beginning on April 12, is going to leave a profound cultural imprint on the digital culture spectators.

Literature is going to be an important part of the Italian month as well. Antalogija Versi diversi on April 23, 2012, event made possible by Italian union and Edit, a publishing house from Rijeka, is a fusion of contemporary poetical production of Italian minority in Croatia and Slovenia, and Slovenian minority in Italy.

There is going to be plenty of good and diverse music in April. Kazina hall of Slovenian National Theatre Maribor will host Italian Musical Selection - Gala concert by Italian national community of Slovenia and Croatia on April 5, 2012, enabled by the Italian union. Some of the most important and successful musicians from classical or popular music will perform, among them: Camerata polensis, Ano Čuić Tanković, Gorana Filipca, Marca Grazianija, Magic flutes, and Eleonoro.

Martina Frezzoti, one of the best pianists of her generation and no stranger to the world's most recognised concert halls while barely 25 years old, will perform in Kazina hall of the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor on April 11, 2012. Month of Italian culture will be concluded with rhythms of indigenous Istrian, and especially Istrian-Venetian music in the form of a band Folkhistria. A modern musical approach and new interpretations of traditional songs and melodies are meant to suit the younger generations. April 26, 2012, Udarnik Cinema is going to be a "crime scene" for the following musical guests: Anika Horvat, Rudi Bučar, Calegaria, Enzo Horvatin, Rok Kleva, Tinkara Kovač, Dario Marušič, IsTrio, Miriam Monica, Tamara Obrovac Transhistria electric, and Manuel Šavron.

Italian events in April will be diversified with other worldly culture. Russian Cultural Embassy will come to its peak on April 2, 2012, with a Gala of Ballet Stars from St. Petersburg performance. Mexico is also getting a spotlight in Maribor, beginning on April 13, 2012 with two exhibitions: Homo Terra 23° by Eduardo Ballester and Body as a Landscape by Jorge Marín. Music group Mariachi Sin Fronteras and Mexican culinary treats will accompany the opening event. Concerts by David Robinson and pianist Thomas Castañede will conclude the Mexican month on the 25th April, 2012.

If you still haven't found anything to your liking, we recommend the artist coming from the land of the rising sun, for Gustaf Hall is hosting a worldly renown DJ Krush that is going to take you on a ride of hip-hop and modern music beats on the April 12, 2012.
